Open systems characterize the next milestones of digitalization according to the well-known Bew-Richards and Succar’s models and have great prospects for the construction industry as a whole. Open systems not only eliminate additional costs and risks for software integration when consolidating project information and its sharing, but also provide important competitive advantages in solving complex multidisciplinary problems to find optimal design, financial and management solutions.

The software systems produced by the company support the international standards for interoperability, developed within the framework of the OpenBIM ™ concept. First of all, these are IFC (ISO 16739), BCF (buildingSMART) and IDS (buildingSMART).

The key, of course, is the IFC standard, which is a detailed ontology of the architecture and construction industry and has important advantages:

• a single information schema that covers the segments of civil, industrial and infrastructure construction, as well as related applied disciplines and concepts
• excellent documentation and a large number of open source programs that implement typical functions for proceeding with IFC data and simplify the development of target systems
• formal schema specified in EXPRESS being a declarative object-oriented data modeling language and allowing the use of model-driven software development technologies
• formal schema, which can be refined and semantically enriched to suit national laws and special requirements
• the result of 30 years of systematic work of hundreds of organizations, companies and universities
• support by leading BIM software vendors at the level of IFC SPF file exchange and an established ecosystem of more than three hundred software systems

However, it should be recognized that open standards are sometimes criticized by practitioners due to their limited and invalid support from software vendors. There are known problems of non-compliance with the standard IFC schema, misinterpretation of data and file exchange anomalies. In this regard, the company sees its mission not only in popularizing the OpenBIM™ standards, but also in creating innovative technologies and systems that could fully fill the existing gaps in their implementation and prove the desired conceptual level of interoperability between BIM systems.
